Echo readers are being urged to help beat cancer by getting involved with a 24-hour relay event.
Relay For Life will feature teams of eight people taking it in turns to walk around a track for 24 hours.
It will take place at Waddington Village Hall on Saturday, July 24.
Katie Parkin, a 41-year-old nursery worker, is helping to organise the event in memory of her five-year-old daughter Emma, who died of a brain tumour in 2001.
Mrs Parkin said: “In 2000, we received a lot of support from generous Echo readers, who read about Emma and sent in quite a bit of money.
“Thanks to readers, we were able to treat her and take her on holiday before she died.
“We want to give something back to the local community, who did so much for us.
“Anyone can join a team or get involved with Relay For Life.
“But we’re not just looking for people to join the relay teams. We’re also looking for entertainment of all different types, from live music to gymnastic acts.”
Phil Greenwood, 52, is also a helping organise Relay For Life. He said it was an opportunity for the community to get involved in helping a worthy cause.
“It’s an event to help celebrate life, and the lives of all of those affected by cancer,” he said.
“It’s a great way for the local community to get involved with raising money for a worthwhile cause, while having fun at the same time.”
This is the first time a Relay For Life event will be held in Lincoln.
Fundraising activities will also take place on the day, and donations can be made at any time.
Sue Medcalf, Cancer Research UK’s Relay For Life Development Executive for Lincolnshire said: “It’s a great way to spend time with your friends, family or work-mates.
“One-in-three people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer at some stage in their lives. Taking part in Relay for Life is about being part of your local community united in the belief that it can make a difference and help beat cancer.”
