City designers bid for Dragon's Den success.

Two fashion designers from Lincoln will step into the Dragon’s Den tonight in an attempt to win a £20,000 investment in their firm.

Angela Couple and Carol Robinson of Lincoln-based company Hats on Heads took part in the BBC business investment programme Dragon’s Den Online, scheduled to be broadcast on BBC2 at 10pm tonight.

The show features budding businessmen and women pitching their ideas and offering shares in their companies, in return for investment from high-profile entrepreneurs.

If the contestants do not get offered the full amount from the dragons, they must walk away with nothing.

Angela and Carol were offering 10 per cent of their fashion business in return for a £20,000 investment and a wealth of business and marketing expertise from the Dragons.

The Hats on Heads business comprises of three main components: millinery, fashion courses and DIY designer hat-making kits.

The fashion duo decided to concentrate their pitch on the hat-making kits, which are already available to purchase in John Lewis and a number of other retailers.

The kits, which come in a number of colours and styles, were originally designed to be made up on courses and hat-making days for the business network IN2Fashion.

Co-founder of Hats on Heads Carol Robinson said that they needed the Dragons to help take their business a step further.

“The hat-making kits started getting a lot of attention when we used them in our fashion courses and people started asking us if they could buy them,” she said.

Co-founder and business partner Angela Couple explained how they got asked to appear on the hit TV show.

“We applied to face the five Dragons on the main show but, as our requested investment was below £50,000, we got asked to apply for the online edition,” she said.

“We submitted a three-minute raw video pitch and the next day they asked us to go to Manchester and appear on the show.

“Certain pitches for the online edition end up on the main TV programme as well so we’re going to be on BBC2 tonight.”
