Wet

DEVELOPER: BETHESDA SOFTWORKS
PLATFORMS: PS3, X360 (REVIEWED):

Meet Rubi Malone – a fiery mercenary with a pistol in one hand and a Samurai sword in the other. As Rubi, you’re thrown into a seedy, underground world of drug runners, double-crossing thugs, blood-bath brawls and hours of mindless action.

But mindless need not be a bad thing. Wet takes a very style-over-substance approach and provides an entertaining third-person action adventure set in a fashionable Grindhouse-style.

The plot twists and turns featuring a whole host of Tarantino-esque characters, crudely steeped in stereotype. Meanwhile, the display is washed with a gritty film grain, while gameplay is broken up with humorous cinematic adverts. Wet even has it’s own title sequence, which gives the game a very authentic B-movie feel. This is a story-fuelled by greed and succeeded by blood-thirsty revenge.

Using an engine similar to that from the Prince of Persia series, Rubi can run up walls, slide, dive, and perform a number of acrobatic manoeuvres, all while slicing, dicing, and shooting bad guys in the head.

However, at times Wet suffers from awkward controls and messy mechanics which slows down the action to a disappointing pace.

All-in-all, Wet is a unique action adventure with enough charm and character to help you overlook a few annoying control flaws. If mindless carnage backed by a good story is your thing, look no further.
