If you’re searching for Mrs Right – then you’re in the right place.
Lincolnshire has been identified as a dating hotbed, with three women to every man currently on the lookout for love.
In fact, single men are so thin on the ground that women are even resorting to looking in neighbouring counties for romance – with 64 per cent saying they have dated someone outside Lincolnshire and 48 per cent claiming they have thought about relocating for more dating opportunities.
The results are the product of a survey of 120 women put together by rural online dating agency Kissinggates.com. Bosses say they need more men to join their books and satisfy the demands of Lincolnshire ladies.
But Victoria Whitehead, 24, a kitchen designer from Lincoln, said she’s never had a problem meeting single men.
“I prefer a more hands-on approach to meeting men than, say, online dating,” she said.
“It’s not hard. Just go out without any expectations.
“I know its cliché to say, but someone usually comes along when you’re least expecting it.
“The thing with online dating is that you don’t know if anyone is telling the truth? You don’t really know who that person at the other end is.
“They could say that they are tall, dark and handsome, but then when you meet them they are bald and portly. You can’t be sure what you’re going to get.
“I think online dating is a bit dangerous and a bit of a gamble, so I’ve always stayed away from it.”
From a man’s perspective, Frank Bruinekreeft, 26, a student at Lincoln University explained that he never actively looks for romance.
“If something comes my way, then it’ll come my way. But I can’t say I’m unhappy as I am,” he said.
“I don’t think romance is the only thing important in the pursuit of happiness.
“As for online dating, its always seems a bit forced to me. I’d probably just feel awkward putting myself up as available like that, and I think a lot of other men would feel the same.
“Perhaps that’s why there’s a shortage of men using online dating sites. It’s almost like advertising property.
“That being said, I do know some people who have met their partners though online dating sites, so I guess it works for some people. I just don’t think its for me.
“At least it comes across as less desperate than speed dating. That’s just a bit weird.”
