Family Party: 30 Games

DEVELOPER: D3 PUBLISHER
PLATFORM: WII (REVIEWED):

Ever since the Wii was conceived, the focus of games has been on interactive multiplay to bring friends and family together through the simple medium of waving a controller around in front of a television screen.

However, the proven success of this concept has opened up flood gates for every third-party developer to cash in with their own cheap, sub-standard interpretation of classics such as Wii Sport and the Mario Party series.

Unfortunately, Family Party is one of these games.

Players are invited to bring their families and join together to play generic party-games such as fishing, skipping and log-cutting. Just what kind of family considers log-cutting a ‘game’ is another question for another time.

Gameplay is weak and monotonous, and the instructions at times can be infuriatingly confusing. On top of this, the visuals and audio leave much to be desired. The Wii has never been known for its cutting-edge displays, relying mainly on unique gameplay. However, the animations and sounds in Family Party are more like something you’d expect on a juvenile second-generation console.

All-in-all, Family Party is an inadequate version of titles already on the market. Best avoided.
